I did two final tests today: one in Eng and another in Vietnamese. Obviously the English test was better than Vietnamese one thousand times anyhow.
You can compare the high sky above and the deep abyss because my English test nearly reached the peak while the subject "Basic Vietnamese culture" was such a beautiful mess that no words could possibly describe how terrible it was.
However, I'm still glad with what I've achieved so far. All my continuing efforts for English will surely go along with poor Vietnamese stuff blah blah~
Well, I intended to study hard "Basic Vietnamese culture" subject last night which brought me sufficient knowledge to write an essay as the final test this morning.
But the fact that I couldn't explain my thoughts in Vietnamese smoothly as my wish. From my sentences to each words within, I used it so fucking awkwardly and badly that it gave me a fright as reviewing what I'd written =]

In reality, my capacity to explain really sucks. Thus I often have to explain and tell people twice what I mean for it's hard to get me at first.
Yup, it's my shortcoming.

Perhaps it's the reason why I regularly use English to confide or discuss something serious with my best friends; and I think it's quite good to run my thoughts out of my mind :)
Sadly, it's become a severe problem to me while I'm still studying and living in Vietnamese environment.

I love Vietnamese when I'm about to write fiction or something; yet it would be the worst disater if I use them to explain or describe something in a formal essay -.-
Gosh... tell me what to do?!
These Vietnamese subjects are dragging my outcome to hell *sigh* I'm truly scared :( Dunno what's gonna happen next with my upcoming examinations in this month *palming my face*
Okie, grumble enough. It's the balance of life, so just smile and everything will go :D

Vietnamese and English are quite different since these languages come from two different cultures. According to the subject “Basis Vietnamese culture” I’ve learnt, Vietnamese often show their dedicate attitude towards others while communicating because they are afraid of dispeasing people. So Vietnamses would rather beat about the bush to please people than get straight to the point directly. For example, as you want to ask someone whether she’s got married, you’d say “have you got married?” directly, right?. In Vietnam, however, you must tell her in a different way like “You’d better come home soon for your children’s sake”. Then if she’s got married not yet, she will explain you after that. On the other, she won’t feel offended. It’s just the least polite manner daily that we should behave in Vietnam. Another example is when you want to offer someone a word of criticism; you ought to talk about “table” to imply the “chair”, you know. I suppose Vietnamese are smart enough to get your intention, and they will feel at easy to fix their things on your account instead you criticize them clearly and they not only won’t obey but aslo dislike you a bit inside :D
RépondreSupprimerSpeaking for Vietnamese books, it’s great to read Vietnamese stories and poets because the category are suitable. Sadly, in my textbooks at school, it drives me crazy when they write whole thick books just to imply few little main points It’s like they lead you from these to those stories…and you must read pages…until you’re disoriented, then you don’t know where you are anymore lolz~ That’s why I prefer English textbooks to Vietnamese ones, I declare they are much easier to understand :)
As I use English to confide in problems to my friends, it usually just takes me a few sentences to let them know. But it would be a long passage in Vietnamese to report my things. With a simple English sentence, you might need three or four sentences in Vietnamese to write about the same idea =] It is easy to good writers, yet I’m the exception :D Perhaps, due to the fact that I’ve been reading English books for years and got so used to English writing style; thus when I start to write Vietnamese again, I hardly describe my ideas in short and precise ways like English. I must write even a long passage to offer the readers the main points that causes my awkward and disordered statement. I failed to explain them directly.
By the way, my English is slightly bad if you compare me to some friends of mine :) They are indeed great writers in both languages. Anyway, I will try my best to improve it :p Thanks for your concern, Jake.
